The next time you hear about an artist who has a particular talent or story to tell, ask them to put it into words.
It can be as simple as saying, “What’s your favourite thing about your music?” or as complex as asking them to tell you about a song they love.
Here are some simple ways you can do just that.
First, check out the artist’s website.
Ask them what their favorite things are.
Ask for a few samples.
Some artists, like Travi$ Scott and DJ Quik, have been known to include music from all over the world.
Second, ask if they would be interested in writing a guest post.
If they’re willing to do that, go ahead and post the link.
Most of the time, artists will give you the go-ahead.
If not, then you’ll have to start from scratch.
Third, ask how you can help.
Are you an audience member who would like to hear more about the artist?
Do you have a favorite track you’d like to feature?
Ask them for an exclusive podcast interview.
It doesn’t matter what you ask.
You can ask for an artist to participate in your podcast as long as they are willing to write an interview.
If they are, go with a small team and try to create an idea of a story that would fit in with the artist.
There’s no need to be too elaborate, but if they can talk about a particular moment of their life, they may be more than happy to.
If you’ve got a creative idea that fits the artist, try to use the artist as a creative source for the story.
This can be a simple email that the artist can use to write about what they’re doing, or it can be something a creative director will write and email you.
It’s your call.
If it’s something they’ve never written before, it’s not going to be a huge success.
Third and finally, try asking them for their thoughts on a particular piece of artwork.
Are they familiar with the style of artwork they’re working with?
Do they think it’s visually appealing?
If you’re interested in working with an artist, take the time to listen to their podcast and ask them questions about it.
It may help to do a few episodes of your own, but you could also take a listen and ask a friend to do the same.
If you want to get a feel for their style, they’ll be happy to share their insights with you.
Finally, be sure to include your thoughts on the podcast with the podcast description.
Many podcasts feature some kind of “thought leadership” section, so make sure you include some type of statement like, “I am very much in favor of the idea of making an entire episode about my podcast.”
You can even add your thoughts in your own words if you feel it would help them write their own episode.
