We’re just days away from the release of the third film in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but what will we see from the film?
EW got a sneak peek at the new film and the upcoming trailer, but before we get to the trailer, we have to go to the Comic-Con panel to talk about how the MCUs Spider-man and Black Cat got their big-screen lives in the first place.
“Spider-Man and Black Cats got their start in comics,” says co-writer-director Christopher Laidlaw, “but it’s a movie that we’re very proud of.
I’m really proud of the work that Christopher did, and that was very much in the forefront of my mind.”
The story opens in 2020, when Spider-Girl, the daughter of a retired super hero, is given a super-powered hammer to use in her quest to save her mother.
After a long journey, the team is reunited in the fictional town of Shoreditch.
It’s here that the team meets the future versions of Spider-Woman and Spider-Boy, the two villains who once were in Shoredich.
After the events of The Avengers, Spider-Slayer and the two Spider-Men have been imprisoned and Peter and Miles must find them a way to free them.
“I think we all know that Peter’s in trouble,” Laidaws says.
“I think he’s a little bit of a loner, he’s lost his identity, but he’s been in prison a long time and it’s not like he hasn’t been thinking of this.
He’s just a little guy.”
When Spider-Cat is put in charge of Shostakovich’s prison, she soon finds out that Spider-boy is being held prisoner for the crime of kidnapping and killing a young girl named Toni, who is also being held captive by Shostaks family.
The team takes advantage of this opportunity to go after Spider-cat.
“We kind of get into this world of a very dark and very complicated world, and Spider is a hero, but we see him as a prisoner,” Laxman says.
“[I think] it’s really interesting, we get him as Peter Parker, but as a criminal.”
The team is successful in taking down the three criminals, but Spider-girl gets caught up in a war that’s going on in the city.
The film ends with Spider-Cats fate.
As for the characters who will appear in the film, Laidwsays that they all have their own story arcs that play out.
“It’s going to be very interesting to see how this whole storyline plays out,” he says.
The filmmakers wanted to have a movie where all these different characters all had their own arcs.
“There’s going be a lot of stuff, and it will be a fun time, and we can’t wait to see what happens.”
